Legacy – The thirteen churches of Ámundi Jónsson

In this enchanting and colourful book Guðrún Arndís Tryggvadóttir goes searching for the life’s work of her eighteenth-century ancestor, Ámundi Jónsson, carpenter, painter and wood carver. She recreates his life and work in watercolours so as to bring the past closer and leaves it to intuition to call forth answers for contemplation, both in her paintings and text.

The book includes essays by Arndís S. Árnadóttir and Sólveig Jónsdóttir intended to enrich this story, imbue it with life and strengthen our connections with the lives and art of former times.  Armed with all this, it is up to readers and viewers to find reflections of their own worlds of experience in what this book places before them.

The book will be presented on December 1st 2019, at the opening of Guðrún´s exhibition at Hallgrímskirkja.
